Moscow changes phone code February 1
Moscow, January 31 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow city telephone network will finalize its transition to the new 495 area code for the Russian capital February 1, a network statement said.
The old, 095 code will no longer be valid and long-distance and international calls to Moscow should be dialed using only the new, 495 code.
All area codes starting with "0" were replaced with "4" in December of last year.
The Ministry of Information and Communications is also planning to introduce a simpler dialing sequence for long-distance and international calls, replacing the initial "8" and "8-10" that Russian callers need to dial with "0" and "00", accordingly.
